Nick Mirabelli soared up the state's all-time list in the javelin and earned some family bragging rights with a N.J. #4 all-time throw of 220-10 on his final attempt during Saturday's Rebel Relays at Howell High School.
Mirabelli, a senior at Rancocas Valley, crushed his former PR of 213-5 that he threw at the Burlington County Open last year. His 220-10 also gave him the family high school record as he overtook his brother Chris, who threw 216-6 as a senior at Holy Cross in 2014. Chris is currently a senior at Rutgers.
After a 191-11 on his first attempt and then a foul throw, Mirabelli's launched his monster heave of 220-10, which is No. 2 in the nation this season behind the 234-11 thrown by Tzuriel Pedigo of Parkview Baptist of Baton Rouge, La., at the Texas Relays.
Mirabelli is now just four feet off the state record of 224-10, set at the 2014 Meet of Champions by Curtis Thompson of Florence, an NCAA champion at Mississippi State.
Here is a look at New Jersey's new top six all-time state list with the current javelin, which has been used since 2002.
